"Gabilan" is an Indian word for 'hawk' of which there are many in this region of California. The Gabilan Range of mountains rests between San Juan Bautista and the Salinas Valley. In this painting I offer up my respect and admiration for the tradition inherent in ranching in this vicinity of California.
